Although any cancer is not fully preventable there are habits and lifestyle choices that can directly lead to cancer, including liver cancer, and increase the likelihood of getting cancer. These can be called risk factors. Although the risk factors make a person more likely to develop liver cancer the presence of these risk factors does not guarantee a person will get liver cancer. • Cirrhosis: Caused by alcohol abuse, the infections listed above and too much iron in the liver.
  • Tobacco use: There is a link between the use of tobacco and liver cancer that is made even greater with the combination of alcohol abuse.
