Cancer Drug Treatment

Although modern medicine has eliminated many diseases cancer remains one of the leading causes of death, second only to heart disease. Many people have been able to fight cancer and place it in remission but others have not and have succumbed to this disease even after trying every available option including surgery, radiation and chemotherapy. Cancer drug treatments are constantly being researched and tested in order to one day find the cure for cancer.

Research on any cancer drug treatment is a long process taking many, many years to get to the point where it can be put into trial or testing on humans. One of the newest cancer drugs is Avastin, which cuts off the blood supply to tumors, basically starving the cancer. This process is called angiogenesis. It is the latest in a series of advancements in colon cancer screening and treatment and the first anti-angiogenesis drug to be approved by the FDA for treatment of colorectal cancer.

Over the last 50 years cancer fighting treatments and cancer drugs have made it possible for people to live with some forms of cancer for years and in other forms of cancer be cured. A cure for cancer is something that all major drug companies have a vested interest in and millions of dollars are spent on research for new cancer fighting drugs.
